Romans 9

I speak the truth in Christ, I do not lie, my conscience bearing witness together with me in the Holy Spirit,

that great sorrow is to me and unceasing grief to my heart.

For I was praying that I myself to be accursed from Christ on behalf of my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh,

who are Israelites, whose are the son-place, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of law and the service, and the promises,

whose are the fathers, and out from whom came the Christ according to the flesh, the One being upon all, God blessed into the ages. Amen.

But not as though the word of God has failed, for not all the ones out from Israel, these are Israel,

not even because they are a seed of Abraham are they all children, but in Isaac will be called a seed for you,

that is, the children of the flesh, these are not children of God, but the children of promise are reckoned into a seed.

For this is the word of promise: According to this time I will come and there will be a son to Sarah.

And not only this, but also Rebekah, having conception out from one, our father Isaac,

for the twins not yet having been begotten, neither having practiced anything good or evil, in order that the purpose according to the choice of God might remain,

not out from works, but out from the One calling, it was said to her that the greater will slave to the lesser,

just as it has been written: Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.

Therefore, what will we say? There is not unrighteousness with God, is there? May it not come to be!

For He says to Moses: I will show mercy to whomever I might show mercy, and I will show compassion to whomever I might show compassion.

Therefore then, it is not the one desiring, not even the one running, but of the One showing mercy, of God.

For the Scripture says to Pharaoh that: Into this very thing I raised you, so that I might show in you My power and so that My name might be proclaimed in all the earth.

Therefore then, He shows mercy to whom He desires, and to whom He desires, He hardens.

Therefore, you will say to me: Why does He still find fault? For who has stood against His intention?

On the contrary O man, who are you, the one arguing against God? The thing formed will not say to the one having formed it: Why did you make me so?

Or does not the potter of the clay have authority out from the same lump to make, on the one hand such a vessel into honor, but on the other hand such a thing into dishonor?

And if God, desiring to show wrath and to make known His power, bore in much longsuffering vessels of wrath fitted into destruction,

and in order that He might make known the riches of His glory upon vessels of mercy, which He prepared before into glory,

whom also He called us, not only out from the Jews, but also out from the nations,

as also He says in Hosea: I will call the people not My people, My people, and the one not beloved, beloved,

and then it will be in the place where it was said to them: You are not My people, there they will be called sons of the living God.

But Isaiah cries on behalf of Israel: If the number of the sons of Israel might be as the sand of the sea then the remnant will be saved.

For the word being completed and being cut short, the Lord will do it upon the earth.

And just as Isaiah foretold: Except the Lord of hosts left behind to us a seed, then we might have became as Sodom and made like Gomorrah.

Therefore, what will we say? That the nations not pursuing righteousness, comprehended righteousness, and the righteousness out from faith,

but Israel pursuing a law of righteousness, did not arrive into the law.

On account of why? Because not out from faith, but as out from works. They stumbled to the stone of stumbling.

Just as it has been written: Behold, I place in Zion a stone of stumbling and a Rock of offence, and the one believing upon Him will not be put to shame.
