This is now, beloved, the second letter I write to you, in which I stir up your sincere mind in a reminder
to remember the sayings foretold by the holy prophets and your apostles of the commandment of the Lord and Savior.
Knowing this first, that upon the last days mockers will come in mockery, going according to their own lusts
and saying, “Where is the promise of His presence? For from when the fathers fell asleep, all things so continue from the beginning of creation.”
For while desiring this, it escapes their notice that the heavens were from long ago, and the earth, out from water and through water, stood together by the of word God,
through which the world then, having been flooded by water, perished,
but the heaven and earth now, by the same word are stored for fire, being reserved into a day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly men.
But in this let it not escape your notice, beloved, that one day alongside the Lord is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
The Lord does not delay the promise, as certain ones consider delay, but He is longsuffering into you, not intending any to perish, but all to advance into repentance .
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the elements burning with intense heat will be loosed, and the earth and the works in it, will be found.
All these things so being loosed, what kind of person is necessary for you to be in holy conduct and godliness,
looking toward and hastening the presence of the day of God, on account of which the heavens burning with fire will be loosed, and the elements burning with intense heat are melted.
But we look toward new heavens and a new earth according to His promise, in which righteousness dwells.
Therefore, beloved, looking toward these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless,
and consider the longsuffering of our Lord as salvation, just as also our beloved brother Paul wrote to you, according to the wisdom having been given to him,
as also in all letters, speaking in them concerning these things, in which certain things are hard to understand, which the ones unlearned and unstable twist, as also the remaining Scriptures, toward their own destruction.
You therefore, beloved, knowing beforehand, be on guard, in order that you might not fall from your own steadfastness, having been led away together by the error of the lawless ones,
but grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. To Him the glory, both now and into the day of the age.
